India eyes 14MW solar PV project with battery storage in Jammu and Kashmir

It will be implemented at a fixed tariff of 2.8 cents per unit.

India is planning a 14MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project with an aggregate storage capacity of 42MWh in Leh and Kargil at the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

A document from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) revealed that the projects will include two facilities of 7MW of solar with 21MWh battery storage each in Leh and Kargil. The scheme will be implemented by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), who will also act as project management consultant (PMC) for the entire project.

The project will be implemented with a fixed tariff of 2.8 cents (INR2) per unit.

SECI will also be responsible for fund management and the release of the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) worth $25.53m (INR182 crores). The VGF will be released in two tranches with the other half to be given on successful commissioning of the full capacity of the project.

The project developers will be selected through a process of open competitive reverse bidding. The projects are to be commissioned within 18 months of being awarded.
