India launches 7.5GW solar tender in Jammu and Kashmir states

Selected bidders will get a 35-year PPA and will need to start operations by 2023.

The Indian government, through the state-run Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI), has issued a tender for 7.5 GW new solar capacity in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The tender will be divided into three 2.5 GW tranches for projects to be developed in Kargil town and in Leh district.

Applicants will develop projects and will finance the connection of their projects to the grid themselves. The selected bidders will be granted a 35-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and they will need to start operations within a 54-month deadline (mid-2023).

The tender is part of a larger plan to build 23 GW of solar capacity in Ladakh (eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir, India), and will fit into the national target of building 100 GW of solar capacity in India by 2022.
