India approves a new 2.5 GW solar-wind hybrid auction

Selected projects will be under build-own-operate basis.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India has endorsed a new 2,500 MW hybrid wind-solar joint auction, whose aim is to optimise the use of transmission infrastructure and reduce the variability of renewable energy sources.

The selected projects will be implemented by the state-held Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and will be delivered under the framework of a build-own-operate basis (BOO). Only bids between 200 MW and 500 MW will be considered while a minimum size of 50 MW has been set for individual projects. The successful bidding companies will sign 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with SECI.
