Indonesia Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Through Gerilya Academy Program bags win at GovMedia Conference & Awards
The Ministry has expanded its scope to include other renewable energies and energy conservation.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia prevailed at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2024 as it received the Indonesia Sustainability Initiative of the Year - Energy title for its internship programme Gerilya Academy (Generation of Renewable Energy Involving Youth Action) that prepares the youth for entry into the clean energy industry.
The programme encourages youth to actively engage in the development of new, renewable energy, and energy conservation in Indonesia. It also expects them to develop an interest in contributing to the advancement of clean energy, become initiators, develop technologies, and become leaders who uphold this vision.
For the 2023 series of the Gerilya Academy, the ministry has expanded its scope to include not only solar, but also other renewable energies such as hydro, geothermal, bioenergy, and also energy conservation. As of this time, it has prepared 260 students from different universities to understand the importance of this cause.
This initiative is open to students across majors to enhance the diversification and diversity of discussions in the development of new, renewable energy in Indonesia.
"These youth will be the future implementers of the energy transitions program. We hope the actions will accelerate the achievement of global emission reduction targets, especially in Indonesia”, said Agus Cahyono Adi, Head of Bureau of Communications, Public Information Services and Cooperation.
During the course of the programme, students have also participated in the installation of the 192 MWp Floating Solar Power Plant, which has been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in November 2023. They also receive a one-month online course alongside practitioners, academics, and professionals in the field of clean energy. Subsequently, for approximately five months, they are going to be directly immersed in the renewable energy industry.
Most of Gerilya Academy's alumni have secured employment in the energy sector, and this programme provides soft skills to prepare them for the professional world. This is recognised for 20 credits in one semester of study.
