Companies pledge for tripling of nuclear power by 2050
120 companies and 140 nations have expressed support for the pledge.
The Net Zero Nuclear Industry Pledge, supported by 120 companies from 25 markets, was launched to triple the nuclear power capacity by 2050.
“Nothing less than this ambitious – but achievable – target will be enough to deliver the scale of contribution needed from nuclear energy to achieve sustainable economic development, and avert the devastating consequences of unchecked climate change,” Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of World Nuclear Association, expressed.

Since 2000, nuclear power has contributed over 2500 TWh of electricity each year. Nuclear reactors have supplied over 10% of global electricity, with nearly a quarter of all-clean, low-carbon power.
To aid the growing electricity demand, nuclear power has to double by 2050. Efforts will have to come from governments to create a healthy policy environment to increase the contributions of nuclear energy and climate change mitigation. Priorities will have to go to the construction of new nuclear plants and the improvement of existing plants.
