China’s smart grid to propel growth of control equipment

Will make China dominant SCADA player.

China’s aggressive development of its smart grid will see the value of its market for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems grow seven-fold to US$20 in 2020 from US$3 billion in 2012, said consulting firm GlobalData.

This massive expansion will result in China increasing its share of the global SCADA market to 61% in 2020 from 45% in 2012.

SCADA is an industrial control system used to gather data from sensors and instruments located at remote sites and then transmit this data at a central site for control or monitoring purposes. The systems are key to smart grid networks.

China’s need to address its imbalanced energy supply is also making it the world leader in smart grid development.
