Japan to enhance energy development in Turkmenistan

Will use advanced Japanese technology to do so.

Japan and Turkmenistan agreed to increase bilateral cooperation in developing energy resources in the central Asian country through advanced technology.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov agreed to expand the fields of bilateral cooperation, especially in energy development, following a summit between both countries.

Abe told Berdymukhamedov that Japan would support Turkmenistan, which has abundant natural resources, with high technology and human resources training skills.

Japan is also expected to help Turkmenistan liquefy its natural gas and improve the latter’s port and power plants and other infrastructure.

Japan has increased its imports of natural gas from Turkmenistan to meet its energy needs since its nuclear power plants are suspended due to Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant disaster in March 2011.
