Malaysia looks to add wind energy to mix

Will develops a national wind map next year.

The Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (Seda Malaysia) plans to include wind energy as part of its renewable energy program. The comprehensive wind map study began at the end of 2012 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

CEO Datin Badriyah Abdul Malek said of Seda’s mission is to increase the renewable energy sources in the Feed-in-Tariff portfolio. The wind map study is a joint effort by Seda and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).

Under the Renewable Energy Act 2011, only four technologies applicable for FiT: biomass, biogas, solar photovoltaic and small hydro. Malaysia is now considering to include wind under the FiT.
